Produced by the Vilbon family since 1850, Rhum Bouvil is a cherished Haitian treasure passed down through generations. As one of Haiti’s oldest rhum-making families, the Vilbons originally sold their rhum in oak barrels, with production in fifty-seven to sixty-eight gallon casks. In the early 1900s, General Dalton Vilbon modernised the process in Port-au-Prince, initially selling the product as “clairin.” The brand name Rhum Bouvil was adopted commercially in 1980. Though the 2010 earthquake caused significant damage to the facilities, they have since been restored, preserving the family’s proud legacy.
